When you’re creating a memorial card for your mother or father, the words you choose matter deeply. The right message captures your love, respect, and memories — and offers comfort to those grieving.

Here are a few suggestions to help you decide what to write:

1. A heartfelt tribute

“In loving memory of a wonderful mother, whose love and kindness will never be forgotten.”

2. A favourite quote or verse

“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day.”

3. A religious prayer

Virgin Mary 4 Page (1)

“Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on her soul.”

4. A funny quote or quote they used often.
“And the toil of a long day is o’ver” A quote my own granddad always loved to sing and was added to his memorial cards. This was veyry perosnla to him and makes me smile everytime I see it on his memorial card.

5. Personal details
Include their name, birth and death dates, sometimes we use alternatively “sunrise & sunset”, and a short message from the family.
Some people also add the area they were from eg. “Farranree, Co. Cork” or “42 Knockfree Ave, Churchfield, Cork”

Tips:

Keep it brief and sincere

Choose a message that reflects their personality

Don’t be afraid to include a touch of humour if it feels right

At Serenity Memorial Cards, we offer design templates and sample verses to make this process easier during a difficult time.

If you would like a card at a different size or shape to our standard sizes, you can just email us at info@serenitymemorialcards.ie and we can supply you with a custom quote.
